What Is Reality Capture?
Reality capture, Laser scanning, or HDS (high definition surveying), is technology that uses laser beams to quickly obtain complete detail of an entire construction project — it’s like a 360-degree photo, but with an accurate position for every pixel. It’s then easily transferred digitally from the scanner to your office computer.
How Does it Actually Happen?
As the lasers move around the space, sensor cameras measure both the changes in angles and thickness as the lasers scan surfaces, and the distance the lasers travel back and forth from surface to camera. Often called a “point cloud”, this type of 3D representation is used for high-accuracy mapping and/or reality capture for building construction, refurbishing, maintenance and BIM - building information modeling.
How Will a Reality Capture Scanner Help Me?
